Spider Armada – Webbed Ships Sail through Concord Forest
On March 17, 2009 I went out early to take my picture of the day and found that a light fog had rolled in during the night. I love to take pictures of trees in the fog so I headed out to the forest behind our house. I knew that we had Bowl and Doily spiders in our woods but I didn’t know how many until this day. In every direction there were hundreds of webs beautifully crafted to perfection. Some looked like bowls, some looked like bee hives but a number of them looked like sailboats ready to slip into the surf for a long journey. They were poised waiting for the rising tide of honeysuckle vines, ready to be caught up in the flow of the forest past the Trillium, through patches of wildflowers and around the cedar islands until they reached the shagbark hickory groves on the horizon. It was a good day!

I LOVE these webs….lovely!
